Rufus Wainwright's Opera, Prima Donna, Debuts

The Manchester International Festival is the site for the premiere of Rufus Wainwright's debut opera, "Prima Donna." Set in Paris, "Prima Donna" is a portrait of a fading opera singer who falls in love with a journalist.

Originally commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera, Rufus penned the opera and composed and arranged the music. Its directed by Daniel Kramer, conducted by Pierre-André Valade and features noted soprano Janis Kelly in the lead role.

"Prima Donna" opens at Manchester's Palace Theater July 10th.
